Building a large-scale quantum computer with continuous-variable optical technologies

Abstract Realizing a large-scale quantum computer requires hardware platforms that can simultaneously achieve universality, scalability, and fault tolerance. As viable pathway to meeting these requirements, computation (QC) based on continuous-variable optical systems has recently gained more attention due its unique advantages approaches. This review introduces several topics of recent experimental theoretical progress in the QC we believe are promising. In particular, focus scaling-up technologies enabled by time multiplexing, bandwidth broadening, integrated optics, as well hardware-efficient robust bosonic error-correction schemes.
